Day 4: Ghat to Monjo
Starting Point: (27.7236, 86.7136)
End Point: (27.8154, 86.7139)
Total Miles: ~6 miles (4–5 hours)
I woke up to this view this morning and wow, I don’t know what to say that I am humbled to be in the shadow of giants.
It was an early morning, and after a quick breakfast we got on the trail. I was still feeling a little lightheaded this morning and decided I was just going to push through and see how I would do.
Today was the first test because there was going to be significant elevation gain. In regards to other days, it isn’t as extreme, but it was still 300m of elevation over a few miles. Once I started moving, I actually was feeling better. I finally found my groove and just kept slowly putting one foot in front of the other. The secret to success is going slow, especially in these early days.
A lot of today was spent passing through small villages and it was my first encounter with the mules on the trail who are bringing gear and supplies up to Namche Baazar (more on that tomorrow).
We got to our campsite in Monjo this afternoon and after getting settled, I trekked back down to the village to find a cafe so I could make this update!
If today had a theme - it was stairs. So many fucking stairs. Up. Down. Up. Literally climbed thousands of steps today and it really grinded me down. I was so happy to be at camp.
Tomorrow is off to Namche Baazar - the Sherpa capital of Nepal. It will be the first difficult day with over 600m of elevation gain.
And I’m sure there will be more stairs.
