Day 10: Recovery Begins...
This doesn’t surprise me. This year has started out with one medical emergency after another, so I’m pretty used to going with the flow at this point and just accepting that some things are beyond my control.
Let me be clear - I am not disappointed that I didn’t make it to Base Camp. This journey, from start to finish, has uniquely been mine. I will walk away from this with a great travel story, I had an amazing experience and all the things I had truly been worried about… none of those mattered.
So, today I’m spending the day inside the hotel. I’m not leaving my room other than to eat, and I am going to let my body heal.
I still have some things to figure out - I am trying to get an earlier flight back home, but I also need to consider accommodations if that doesn’t happen.
The unexpected medical evacuation put a serious financial strain on me and while I will “make it work” - I know I can’t stay at this hotel past tomorrow.
I also have the long, arduous task of filing all these travel insurance claims and I just don’t have the mental capacity to deal with that while also being sick.
So, my time in Nepal isn’t at an end just yet. I hope that I feel better over the next few days and can squeeze in one last adventure before heading home.
