LIABILITY, SAFETY AND
COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
At Hike the Sunshine, our mission is to bring people together to explore the beauty of Florida’s wild places — safely, respectfully, and with a sense of community. We take every reasonable step to make our events safe and accessible for all participants, but outdoor activities always carry a degree of risk. By choosing to attend an event, you agree to the following terms and guidelines.
Personal Responsibility
By participating in any Hike the Sunshine activity (including hikes, paddles, cleanups, or social gatherings), you acknowledge that:
You are voluntarily joining at your own risk.
You are physically able to participate and are responsible for monitoring your own well-being during the event.
You understand that Hike the Sunshine, its organizers, volunteers, and partners are not liable for any injury, illness, loss, or damage that may occur before, during, or after the event.
Outdoor environments can include uneven terrain, wildlife, changing weather, and other natural hazards. Each participant is responsible for using sound judgment and taking reasonable precautions.
Safety Commitment
We care deeply about the safety of our community. To help ensure a positive experience for everyone:
Events are planned with safety and accessibility in mind.
Group size may be limited to maintain a manageable and supportive environment.
Check-in, safety briefings, and buddy systems are used whenever possible.
Participants are expected to bring water, proper footwear, sun protection, and any necessary personal gear.
If you ever feel unwell or unsafe during an event, please inform an organizer or fellow participant right away.
Code of Conduct
Our community is built on respect, kindness, and inclusion. By attending, you agree to:
Treat all participants, wildlife, and natural spaces with respect.
Refrain from alcohol or drug use during events.
Follow Leave No Trace principles and help keep Florida beautiful.
Respect the directions of organizers and local park staff.
Contribute to a welcoming, harassment-free environment.
Failure to follow these guidelines may result in removal from the event or future participation restrictions.
Photography & Media
Photos and videos may be taken during events for use on Hike the Sunshine’s website and social media channels. If you prefer not to appear in photos, please let an organizer know before the event begins.
Waiver of Liability
By attending a Hike the Sunshine event, you agree to release and hold harmless Hike the Sunshine, its organizers, volunteers, and affiliates from any and all liability, claims, or causes of action arising from participation. This includes (but is not limited to) injury, illness, loss, or damage to personal property.
You also agree to assume full responsibility for your safety and actions during the event and to comply with all posted rules, regulations, and instructions.
Accessibility & Inclusion
We strive to make events welcoming and accessible. If you have any specific needs, accommodations, or concerns, please reach out in advance so we can do our best to support you.
In Short:
We’re here to build community, not to assume risk. Each participant joins with personal responsibility, mutual respect, and a shared love of Florida’s natural spaces. Together, we can keep Hike the Sunshine safe, inclusive, and inspiring for everyone.
