Day One: Getting There

EBC

Hey there!

This is the first of my updates from my travels - these will be a bit more conversational and a little less polished than my other posts.

Today is the long haul - flying all the way from Orlando, Florida to Kathmandu, Nepal.

My first stop is JFK airport in New York City. I have a 7.5 hour layover here so I have been trying to kill time.

If you ever find yourself here in the same situation, I suggest you head over to Terminal 5 and go landside and check out the historic TWA hotel. This place is straight out of the 1960s and is the only on-site hotel at JFK.

They offer both overnight and daytripper options, so if you want to grab a nap and a shower - you can get a room for a half day before you head out. I’m probably going to do that on my way back since I will have another layover upon my return.

Currently I’m waiting to board the longest leg of my trip - the 16 hour flight to Delhi, India. I don’t know what to expect but i’m glad it is later in the day so I can try and get some sleep.

I’ll update once I land! TTFN!

Part Two: Still in the Air

I’m still in the air flying to Delhi, there is about six hours left and I don’t think anyone ever tells you the reality of long-haul flights.

They are exhausting, they are demanding, they take it out of you no matter how prepared you may think you are. I really should have taken a sleep aid or something but i’m up here raw dogging this flight with nothing but a pair of headphones and an offline Spotify playlist.

I have always had trouble sleeping on flights and considering I have been up and traveling the better part of 24 hours at this point, my mind is wandering.

This is honestly going to be the hardest part of this entire trip - but hey, once i’m off this plane - just one more flight, and a nice 3 hour layover in India with lounge access (bet your ass i’m taking a shower!).

Until then…

Part Three: Landed in India

That flight was a BEAST, I can honestly say that is the longest flight I have ever taken and I am feeling absolutely wrecked.

I have a short layover in New Delhi and thankfully I have lounge access here - so time to get something to eat, rest, recharge and get ready for the last leg of my flight.

Honestly, reflecting on this moment, this might possibly be harder than anything I encounter the next three weeks - it is draining in a way that I can’t describe.

But onward I go!
